Helping Properties Stay Prepared - Before and After Severe Weather

Coastal weather is part of life in North Carolina. When storms are forecasted, preparation and timely follow-up can make a meaningful difference in protecting a home and identifying concerns early.

MPM’s Weather Wise Program is designed to support vacation rental properties before a storm arrives and after conditions are safe to return, helping owners stay informed and prepared.

Pre-Storm Preparation

(Completed prior to storm impact)

When Weather Wise services are activated, our team takes practical steps to help secure the property before severe weather arrives.

Pre-storm preparation may include:

• Securing outdoor furniture, trash cans, beach equipment, and similar items

• Locking and securing all windows and doors

• Turning off the water heater

• Sending elevators to the highest floor to help minimize flood risk

Pre-Storm Preparation Fee: $150.00

These steps are intended to reduce potential exposure and help the property weather the storm as safely as possible.

Post-Storm Property Reporting

(Completed once access is permitted)

After a storm has passed and re-entry is allowed, our team conducts a visual walkthrough of the property to assess any obvious concerns.

Post-storm reporting includes:

• Accessing the property using authorized re-entry passes (when public access to the island is restricted)

• A visual check of both the interior and exterior of the home

• A detailed report noting any visible damage or concerns observed

This report is shared with the property owner to support next steps, including maintenance coordination or insurance follow-up if needed.

Important Note:MPM team members are not licensed home inspectors. Post-storm reports are based on visual observations only. However, our team is experienced in identifying common post-hurricane issues that may require further attention.
